Chairman’s Message

A very warm welcome to you, our audience. We hope you enjoy the Middlesbrough Scouts Gang Show.

It is my sad duty to inform you that since our last show, the President, Irwin Greenwood, died. Irwin was associated with Gang Shows in Middlesbrough since its inception in 1949. He was Producer for all the Shows in the Little Theatre from 1958 till 1978 and has held Executive positions with the Show since then, although always willing to help and advise on production matters.

This Show is a dedication to his memory and includes some of the numbers he counted as his favourites.

I have visited many of the rehearsals this year and have witnessed the team spirit, the dedication and professional manner in which the Cast, Production and Business Teams have worked. All thanks to them for their efforts, which I know will pay dividends with a wonderful 1996 Show. Thank you for honouring us with your presence today – now sit back, enjoy yourselves and savour the spectacle and entertainment of this, our “Gang Show”.

PRODUCTION MANAGER’S MESSAGE

Once again Middlesbrough Scouts present ‘The Gang Show’ at the Little Theatre Ä our 20th consecutive show at this venue.

Unfortunately since our last show we have lost the services of Middlesbrough’s own “Mr Gang Show”, Irwin Greenwood, who is no longer with us after a long illness. We owe so much to Irwin for the continuance of Gang Show in Middlesbrough that we have specifically dedicated two numbers in the show (Owls and Money and Friends) to his memory.

I would like to thank all the dedicated people without whom this show would not go on: the Producers, Accompanists, Wardrobe, Choreographers, Orchestra and Back Stage supporters who infuse the Cast with enthusiasm and professionalism.

All the many hours of support given by the majority of them is done *ee of charge (which many people do not appreciate); they have been backed by parents, helpers, leaders and the Show Business Team. I thank them and you, the audience, for being here tonight.

Sit back in your seats now, enjoy the show as the Scouts and Guides of Middlesbrough try their best to entertain you; it is their hope that you will appreciate their efforts and support their next show when it comes along.

We also hope that we may have won many new friends for Scouting.

KEITH NUDD
Production Manager

P.S. This one is for you, Mam.

MESSAGE FROM THE COUNTY COMMISSIONER

Dear Friends and Supporters of Scouting,

I hope that you enjoy this GANG SHOW as much as all the cast, production staff, back-stage people, programme sellers and others do. I know that the best part of the show is being one of the “Gang” during the rehearsals and run-up to the show. It’s like being part of one big “family”, and that too is what Scouting is all about.

We all work together to have fun, make friends, do exciting things, in the safety of the “family”. BUT – we need your help.

All our leaders are volunteers in uniform, of which we are rightly proud, but many of our helpers are parents and friends, all doing their little bit to help the “show” of Scouting to stay on the road.

After the show is over, and you admire the enthusiasm and dedication of the cast and production team, could you spare a few moments to think if YOU would like to help the Scouting Movement in some way? You could find yourself sharing in some of that fun, picking up some of that enthusiasm, and making lots of friends along the way.

Contact any uniformed member in the theatre – they will be only too pleased to help you.

To the “Gang”, Good Luck in the Show – enjoy yourselves with your big family, and help to keep the flag of Scouting “riding along on the crest of a wave”.

JUNE WHEELER
County Commissioner

DISTRICT COMMISSIONERS’ LETTER

Once again it falls to us to welcome you to the Middlesbrough Gang Show. The show you are about to see is the product of many months of hard work by a large number of people, the production team, the cast and last but certainly not least the back stage crew who are the unsung hero’s of this production. We must thank the Cleveland Guides for all their help, it is good to see the Guiding and Scouting Movements working together so well.

This year is going to be a very busy one for Scouting in Cleveland. The International “Friendship” camp is to be held at Ripley Castle, when some 2000 Scouts and Guides from all over the world will partake of a host of activities set up by Cleveland County Leaders, a really formidable task. Let’s hope the weather smiles on us and allows the Boys and Girls to enjoy the camp to the full.

Doug Corbin is again organising a foray into darkest Africa with a group of Venture Scouts and Ranger Guides to carry out work to help those less fortunate than ourselves. This time it is to Middlesbroughs twin town of Masvingo in Zimbabwe, good luck to you all in this venture.

These are only two of the exciting activities that are being planned inside the County. These are extra to the “normal” Scout work that goes on week after week. We thank all the dedicated leaders who make this all possible. Despite all the marvellous work done by the Warranted Leadership, Scouting as we know it can only exist with the help and support of you, the people. Thank you all – now just sit back and enjoy “The Gang Show 1994”.
