Show Chairmans Message
I have given a lot of thought about this show and have come to the conclusion that the voluntary work that has gone into it is equal to the effort that produces a great work of art, built by a team of people working towards one end.
This end is naturally the production of a great Gang Show and so it has turned out again this year.
I cannot begin to thank the scores of people who have given freely of their services once again whether inside or outside the movement.
So once again I invite you to partake of our effort and enjoy the products of our months of hard work in putting the show together.

Message from the County Commissioner
Scouting in Cleveland offers valuable and enjoyable training for young people through many different activities. Our numbers continue to increase and this year the Venture Scout Section (151/2 – 20 Yrs.) is celebrating its 21st Birthday. One of the special projects being organised to mark this milestone is an expedition to Kenya in the Summer to construct water storage tanks for several villages.
Apart from learning some of the obvious skills of entertainment, the members of the ’88 Gang will have learned a tremendous amount about working together in harmony during rehearsals. One of our fundamental aims in Scouting is to train our members to work together within the Community and Gang Shows certainly help us to achieve this aim.
Traditionally, a Gang Show does not have a star and no one is singled out for special praise, but I must particularly thank the Production Team who have worked so hard to ensure that this year’s Show is even better than before. We always expect a very high standard from the ‘Middlesbrough Gang’ and it is often hard to believe that such professional results are achieved by amateur performers.
I am pleased to have this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the Show for their enthusiastic and dedicated effort and I wish the whole Gang every success with Gang Show ’88.
Neil W. Midgley
County Commissioner.
DISTRICT COMMISSIONER’S LETTER
PETER SANDERSON & DOUG CORBIN
In 1990 we introduced this letter with a gang show song and we make no apology for doing something similar this year ……..”Here we are again with yet another show”. . . and it hardly seems like two years since we all met for Gang Show ’90.
The production team, members of the cast and a whole host of backstage people have been working extremely hard for the last four months to produce what has been forecast as the best show yet. Again we must thank Cleveland Guides for their help and co-operation.
But the Gang Show is just one event in a vast range of activities undertaken by the Scouting movement in Cleveland. No doubt you have heard of our International Camp at Ripley Castle – Friendship ’91 and the Water for Africa Project which reaches its culmination this summer to name but two. And 1992 sees the introduction of the Promise Appeal, the aim of which is to raise £10 million countrywide towards national, county, district and group funds.
Finally we thank you for your continued support – so sit back and enjoy this OUR GANG SHOW ’92.

Water for Africa
The 1992 Water for Africa Expedition involves 50 Venture Scouts, Ranger Guides and leaders from Cleveland, including a small party from Sunderland. Each are paying £700 to cover their own travelling expenses and living costs whilst in Kenya.
These participants represent the whole of Scouting in Cleveland and area. In the eyes of Kenya Scouts and the Kenya Government the example set by Cleveland Scouts is held up for all to see. Not all expeditions that have gone from the UK in recent years have earned this respect. Cleveland Scouts go there to work and will not be satisfied if they do not complete what they set out to achieve.
The project aims to construct a much needed health clinic in the village of Murinduko which is situated on the slopes of Mount Kenya, some 70 miles north of Nairobi. At present the nearest medical facilities are a 10 mile walk from the village, certainly not an easy journey to undertake if you are in need of medical attention.
The proposed clinic will provide general medical treatment for sickness and injury and a preventive medical programme, including Family Planning and Ante Natal Clinics. This may seem mundane to us who are used to convenient access to medical care, but we must remember that in Kenya, as in most other parts of Africa, 1 child in 6 under the age of 5 dies through lack of simple medical treatment

We need: 27 tonnes Cement
160 tonnes Aggregate
3500 Stone Blocks
1800 metre Timber
265 Corrugated Roof Sheets
13 Doors
14 Windows
280 metre Steel
Reinforcement
200 Kg Nails
These are the main materials which will
be used in little over three weeks to
build the clinic together with associated
water storage and latrine f,acilities.
It will not be a holiday!
We ask you help to raise the £20,000 necessary to buy these materials. Any donations of fund raising you can provide to help us will be gratefully appreciated – every little helps.
Please give us your support so that we can show Kenya that we are as good as they think we are!
